Hagerstown’s Blaine Grove found a $10,000 Monopoly scratch-off prize!

Claims prize on $10 Monopoly game

A 34-year-old Hagerstown father of two was calm, cool and collected when he claimed a $10,000 Monopoly scratch-off prize on Monday because he spent the entire weekend thinking about his lucky win.

Blaine Grove was getting a sandwich at Sheetz #82 on 301 E. Washington Street in Hagerstown on Friday when the urge hit to purchase Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. Because he prefers to play higher-priced instant tickets, he selected the new $10 Monopoly game that launched June 20 and a bingo scratch-off.

While Blaine waited for his food, he started to scratch off the Monopoly game. The Washington County resident likes to scratch the numbers first before revealing prize amounts.

“I knew it was going to be a winner because each line had matching numbers,” Blaine said, smiling. “But, when I saw the first prize was $1,000, I knew it was going to be big.”

He was correct! The happy winner put his ticket away, paid for his food and headed home. He hid the ticket and enjoyed a normal weekend with family and friends, slowly letting realization of his good fortune sink in.

Blaine, who works on the assembly line at Volvo Power Training, totaled his car a couple of months ago. He plans to use his winnings for a down payment on a new vehicle and a “much-needed vacation.”

The $10 scratch-off is part of a family of Monopoly scratch-off games that launched in June. The family has $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 scratch-offs with prizes of $1,000, $10,000, $50,000, $100,000 and $1 million. His $10 game still has five $100,000 top prizes remaining and 11 more $10,000 prizes.
