Miguel Salinas Salgado of Hagerstown and his wife Norma celebrate his $30,000 top-prize win on the Loteria scratch-off game.

Father of two takes home $30,000 prize

A 31-year-old Hagerstown man could not stop smiling after winning a $30,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Loteria scratch-off game, which he and his family just started playing a month ago.

The $3 Loteria game initially appealed to Miguel Salinas Salgado because of its theme. Then, the Washington County resident and some of his family members started playing the game and won small amounts here and there. However, nothing compares to the prize Miguel discovered a few weeks ago after his wife Norma purchased six tickets from the 7-Eleven at 802 Salem Avenue in Hagerstown.

“She gave each of us a ticket to play and joked that if any of us won, we’ll have to give her half,” said Miguel. “When I won $30,000, she didn’t believe me.”

“I told him, you must mean $30,” said Norma. “But, when he showed us, I saw it was really $30,000.”

Once the thrill of winning sank in, Miguel put away his ticket and waited until he could get a day off from his construction job to claim the big prize. Accompanying him to claim his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore were his wife, his uncle and his two children.

Miguel said family comes first and he will make plans for spending his prize money down the road.

The Loteria game still has two $30,000 top prizes remaining, along with over 200 $600 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $3 to $150. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, 7-Eleven #20159 will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
