Winner Lisa McCusker and her husband Eric celebrate her $50,000 scratch-off win. |
Long line leads to $50,000 top-prize discovery
Hagerstown hair stylist Lisa McCusker made several winning choices on the day Lottery luck came to her town. A long wait to order food and her decision to pass the time playing scratch-offs put a $50,000 winning Hot Riches instant ticket in her hand.
“I initially stopped over at the Chik-fil-A Restaurant to get dinner but the line was too long,” she said. The hungry Washington County woman headed to nearby Martin’s Foods to buy a scratch-off or two to enjoy while waiting for lines to shorten at the restaurant.
After purchasing a $5 Hot Riches instant ticket, Lisa decided to scratch it off in the store.
“I started shaking because the ticket was telling me I won $50,000,” said the 39-year-old. “I just could not believe what I was seeing. I must have scanned the ticket at least a dozen times using the Lottery’s mobile app on my phone.”
The app told the lucky Lisa to claim her big prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore!
After they pay a few bills with the windfall, Lisa and her husband Eric may use some of the money to take their kids to the beach to celebrate. “We just bought a house so this win certainly helps our family,” said Eric. “I’m glad she decided to stop at the grocery!”
Her big win also benefits Martin’s Foods. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the Hot Riches game, the store located at 1670-C Wesel Boulevard in Hagerstown earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The Hot Riches game is still packed with winners, including six more unclaimed $50,000 top prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
