Lucky angler hooks $10,029 prize
A friend’s impending trip to gambling mecca Las Vegas led to a Pennsylvania fisherman snaring a $10,029 Keno prize. The lucky player, nicknamed “Woody Wins,” is now planning a trip to Texas to visit his daughter and enjoy world-class largemouth bass fishing.
“They practically jump in the boat,” said the 62-year-old after collecting his Keno winnings at Maryland Lottery headquarters.
His journey to good fortune started when “Woody Wins” got a call from a friend suggesting a send-off gathering for the Las Vegas traveler. “Woody Wins met his friends across the Maryland state line at their usual watering hole, Creekside Inn in Hagerstown.
Their conversation about Las Vegas evolved into a decision to enjoy a game of chance right then and there. “We started to play Keno and he got lucky,” said the friend who summoned “Woody” to the gathering. The pal joined “Woody” in the Lottery Winner’s Circle.
“Woody Wins” is not a regular Keno player but does enjoy playing games offered by both the Pennsylvania and Maryland lotteries. The State Line resident’s system for picking Keno numbers involves birth dates, important years and his Social Security number. That system worked perfectly for his 7-spot bet with the Super Bonus multiplier. One of his five drawings playing the numbers 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66 and 77 delivered the prize.
With the winnings, “Woody” plans to pay bills and then enjoy his fishing expedition.
Sharing in “Woody Wins’” luck is the Creekside Inn, which earned a bonus of $100.29 from the Lottery for selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more. The lucky retailer is located at 1225 Security Road. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
