Washington County woman claims Deluxe Cash Crossword scratch-off win
A Hagerstown mom bagged more than she bargained for when she added her favorite Maryland Lottery scratch-off to her groceries. The Deluxe Cash Crossword game delivered a $50,000 top prize!
The loyal player found her Lottery luck while running an errand. She decided to stop by Martin’s grocery in Hagerstown while waiting for two sons to finish playing basketball at the local recreational center. Superstitious about the Lottery playing process, the 61-year-old usually picks scratch-offs from displays that are half full of instant tickets and never from a display that only has two tickets. However, on this day, she bought her ticket from an Instant Ticket Vending Machine at the grocery so she had less control over the selection process.
Back home, the mother of six settled in to scratch off her ticket. “I have a pattern for how I scratch off my tickets, but since my luck was already off that day, I decided to change it up,” she said. The Washington County woman noticed immediately that she won at least $20. By the time she realized she’d won the $5 game’s top prize of $50,000, she was trying not to scream with joy and to remain calm!
“I had to keep checking (my ticket) to make sure I won, so I went to the kitchen and got a napkin to write the letters down,” she said. After confirming her win, she called her son and he didn’t believe her – at first. “Don’t play with me, mom,” he said.
The scratch-off fan plans to pay off her car loan, continue to help her sons pay for college and put the remainder of her prize aside for retirement. For selling the winning ticket, Martin’s #6444 located at 18726 North Pointe Drive in Hagerstown, received a $500 bonus.
If you enjoy playing the Deluxe Crossword scratch-off game like our Hagerstown winner, you can still win top prizes! No one had claimed the last $50,000 top prize and four $10,000 prizes remaining on the scratch-off at the time of her win.
